Cooling

What Actually Breaks on ABQ Air Conditioners

Two things dominate refrigerated-air failures here: heat and dust. Long stretches above 95 degrees run compressors and capacitors near their limits, and a capacitor that is marginal in May will drop out in July on the hottest afternoon of the year.

The dust is the other half. A condenser coil packed with fine grit cannot reject heat, so head pressure climbs, efficiency falls, and the compressor works far harder than it was designed to. A great many of the repairs we are called for started as a coil nobody cleaned.

  • Failure Parts Stocked Capacitors, contactors and fan motors ride on the truck, so most repairs finish same-visit.
  • Measured Diagnosis Superheat, subcool and amp draw tested — we find the fault instead of guessing at parts.
  • Flat-Rate Pricing You approve the price before we begin. No hourly meter, nothing added afterward.

What We See

Signs Your AC Needs Repair

Air conditioners rarely fail without warning. These are the symptoms we hear most.

  • Running But Not Cooling

Commonly a clogged filter, low refrigerant from a leak, a failed capacitor or a filthy condenser coil.

  • Buzzing or Humming Outside

A hum with no fan movement usually means a failed capacitor or contactor — often a same-visit fix.

  • Ice on the Line or Coil

Ice means airflow restriction or low refrigerant. Running it iced up risks the compressor.

  • Short, Frequent Cycles

Often an oversized system, a refrigerant problem or a control fault rather than normal behaviour.

My serviceman was cordial, friendly, professional, and had a great sense of humor. This is his first visit to my house. I felt comfortable with him. He does a great job.

The overall service of B. Carlson is excellent. They have been my HVAC company almost since I bought this house and I see no reason to switch. As they say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Well, B. Carlson ain't broke, so I've no reason to fix them. I have recommended them to friends and neighbors many times.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast can you get here?

Same-day in most cases, and 24/7 dispatch for no-cooling emergencies. Call (505) 349-4409.

Do you repair all brands?

Yes — all major refrigerated-air and heat-pump brands, regardless of who installed the system.

Why does my AC freeze up?

Almost always restricted airflow or low refrigerant. A dirty filter is the cheapest cause; a leak is the most common real one.

Should I repair or replace?

Under about ten years old with a repair costing a fraction of replacement, repair usually wins. We give you both numbers and let you choose.
