Our technicians are licensed for gas work in New Mexico and have been installing gas lines in Albuquerque homes since 1971. Gas piping is licensed work here for good reason — sizing, materials, pressure testing, and venting all have to be right, and the consequences of getting them wrong are not recoverable.

What Proper Gas Line Work Requires

  • Correct pipe sizing. Calculated from BTU demand and distance from the meter. An undersized line starves the appliance — a common finding when someone installs a tankless water heater on the line that fed a tank.
  • Appropriate materials for the application — black iron, CSST, or approved flexible connectors, each with its own installation requirements.
  • Proper support and protection where lines pass through framing or run underground.
  • Correct shutoff valve placement at each appliance.
  • Pressure testing before the system is put into service — non-negotiable.
  • Permits and inspection where code requires them.

What Makes Albuquerque Work Different

Older homes here frequently have original steel gas piping that has corroded, plus modifications made over decades that were never inspected. It is common to open up a project and find prior work that does not meet current code. We evaluate the existing system rather than assuming it is sound, because tying a new appliance into a compromised line just extends the problem.

Because we do HVAC and plumbing, a gas line serving a furnace and a water heater is one contractor’s responsibility. That matters for a detail like an orphaned water heater flue after a furnace upgrade — a real safety issue that gets missed when two companies handle the two appliances.
