Pipe repair cost depends on four things: where the leak is, what the pipe is made of, how much has to be opened to reach it, and whether the leak has already caused damage that needs addressing. Accessibility is usually the biggest variable — not the pipe itself.

What Drives the Price

  • Location and access. An exposed pipe under a sink or in a crawlspace is straightforward. A leak inside a finished wall means opening drywall; a slab leak means cutting concrete. Same repair, very different jobs.
  • Pipe material. Copper, PEX, CPVC, and galvanized all repair differently. Galvanized is the difficult one — it is often so corroded that cutting into it reveals more failing pipe adjacent to the repair.
  • Extent. A single failed joint versus a section that has corroded along its length.
  • Water damage. If the leak has been running, drywall, insulation, and flooring may need attention beyond the plumbing.
  • Timing. After-hours emergency calls carry an emergency rate.

When Repair Stops Making Sense

Worth being direct about. If you have galvanized supply lines and this is the third leak in two years, each repair is buying months on a system that is failing throughout. At that point repiping costs more upfront and less overall — and it ends the cycle of opening walls repeatedly. We will show you both numbers rather than quietly repairing the same system forever.

Find the Cause, Not Just the Leak

High incoming water pressure is a frequent underlying culprit — it stresses every joint in the house, and homes without a working pressure reducing valve develop repeat leaks. Hard water scale and freeze damage are the other common causes here. Fixing the leak without addressing the cause means seeing us again.

Acting Early Costs Less

A dripping joint caught early is a small repair. The same leak running inside a wall for two months is drywall, insulation, framing, and possibly mold remediation.
