We recommend and install Rheem, Rinnai, and Navien — Rheem for conventional gas and electric tanks, Rinnai and Navien for tankless. All three have strong reliability records and, importantly for New Mexico, good parts availability across the state.
Why These Three
- Rheem. Deep lineup across gas, electric, and heat pump tanks, with a wide local parts network. When a thermostat or gas valve fails on a Saturday, availability matters more than a spec-sheet advantage.
- Rinnai. A long-established tankless manufacturer with a strong track record and serviceable components — heat exchangers and controls can be replaced rather than requiring a whole new unit.
- Navien. Strong condensing tankless models, including combi units that handle both domestic hot water and space heating from one appliance.
What Matters More Than Brand
Installation quality and sizing. A well-regarded unit sized wrong, vented wrong, or fed by an undersized gas line will underperform and fail early. On tankless specifically, undersizing is common here because our groundwater arrives cold — a larger temperature rise means lower usable flow than the same unit delivers in a warm climate.
Hard Water Outranks Brand Too
No manufacturer is immune to Albuquerque’s mineral content. Sediment insulates a tank’s burner and shortens its life; scale coats a tankless heat exchanger and cuts efficiency. Annual flushing on tanks, annual descaling on tankless, and ideally a water softener — those decisions affect longevity more than which of these three names is on the unit.
