A filter is passive — it captures what passes through it. An air scrubber uses active technology, typically UV light combined with a catalytic process, that generates purifying agents distributed into the living space. The Requirement

Because it works through your ductwork, an air scrubber only treats what your system circulates. If the coil and blower wheel are caked with dust, or return ducts are pulling attic air into the supply, address those first — maintenance and duct sealing often deliver more improvement than added equipment.
