Gas water heater installations carry two layers of coverage: our workmanship warranty on the installation and the manufacturer’s warranty on the unit itself, all backed by our Home Comfort Guarantee. We register manufacturer coverage on your behalf and put the terms in writing before you approve the job.
Workmanship Warranty
Covers everything we did — gas connections, venting, water connections, the T&P valve and its discharge routing, and system setup. If our installation does not hold, we return and correct it without another charge. On a gas appliance this is the coverage that matters most, because installation errors on venting and combustion air are both the most consequential and the most common.
Manufacturer Warranty
Terms vary by brand and model, and most gas tank warranties distinguish between the tank itself and the components — often a longer term on the tank, a shorter one on the gas valve, thermostat, and burner assembly. We tell you exactly what your unit carries at quote time rather than leaving you to find out at claim time.
What Can Void Manufacturer Coverage
- Improper venting or inadequate combustion air. A frequent finding on unpermitted installs, and a safety issue independent of the warranty question.
- An undersized gas line that starves the appliance.
- Missing documented annual maintenance. In Albuquerque this matters — a tank that fails from sediment-driven corrosion after years without flushing is exactly the claim a manufacturer will scrutinize.
- No expansion tank where a closed system requires one.
- Excess incoming pressure without a working pressure reducing valve.
The Orphaned-Flue Issue
Worth flagging: if your gas water heater shares a chimney with a furnace and that furnace is later replaced with a high-efficiency condensing model, the water heater can be left improperly vented in an oversized flue. That is a carbon monoxide concern and a common oversight when different contractors handle the two appliances. We check for it because we do both trades.
Keeping Coverage Intact
Annual maintenance creates the documentation and prevents the failures. Care Club members get it on schedule, and a water softener addresses the hardness that drives most premature failures here.
