What UV Does and Does Not Do
UV-C is genuinely effective against mould, bacteria and biofilm on the surfaces it illuminates. Inside an HVAC system, the surface that matters is the evaporator coil and drain pan, where condensation makes a reliably damp environment.
What UV does not do is filter dust or pollen. Air moving past a lamp is exposed for a fraction of a second, which is not enough to sterilise it. Anyone selling UV as a replacement for good filtration is overselling it — it works alongside filtration, not instead of it.

No. UV treats surfaces in the system; filtration removes particles from the air. They do different jobs.
Is UV-C safe?
Yes, when installed correctly inside sealed equipment. Exposure risk only exists with the unit open, which is why installation matters.
How often do lamps need replacing?
About annually. Output drops significantly before the lamp visibly fails.
Will it help with dust?
No — dust is a filtration problem. UV targets biological growth.
