A pressure reducing valve (PRV) is a spring-loaded valve installed where water enters your home. It takes whatever pressure the municipal main delivers — often far higher than a house needs — and steps it down to a safe, consistent level, protecting every pipe, fixture, and appliance downstream.

How It Works

Inside the valve, an adjustable spring presses against a diaphragm connected to a seat. Incoming high-pressure water pushes against that diaphragm; when downstream pressure reaches the setpoint, the valve throttles flow to maintain it. The result is steady household pressure regardless of what the street main is doing — including overnight, when municipal pressure typically rises because demand drops.
